The Metropolitan Police has launched an investigation into the death of a British man in the Caribbean after a private post-mortem examination ruled his death as homicide.
Andrew Donald Frederick, 47, died in Grenada on January 4 this year.
His death was initially ruled accidental and his body was later returned to the UK.
But, West London Coroner’s Court heard on Tuesday that the Met is now investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
Senior Coroner Lydia Brown suspended inquest proceedings pending the outcome of the police investigation.
It is understood diplomatic discussions are also taking place with authorities in Grenada.
Mr Frederick’s family attended Tuesday’s hearing via video link.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed officers had contacted the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF).
“Officers have contacted the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) to offer assistance and discuss how the investigation can be progressed,” the spokesperson said.
“Mr Frederick’s family are being supported by specialist officers.
“No arrests have been made at this stage and inquiries are ongoing.”
