DEFENCE officials spent almost £4,000 a time on chauffeur-driven road trips for staff — while the Army cancels exercises to help save £30million.
New figures show the Ministry of Defence paid £3,850 each for 13 one-way journeys, including a 65-mile hop between two bases in the South East.
MoD travel records show its bill for taxis and chauffeur-driven cars was £1,932,244 from April 2024 to April 2025 — over £37,000 per week.
The bills, revealed in a freedom of information request, come after top brass were told to halt any large-scale training unless troops are about to deploy.
But Darwin Friend, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “Taxpayers will be astonished to see defence chiefs riding around in chauffeur-driven cars.
“With the defence budget already under enormous pressure and major training exercises being cancelled, shelling out millions of pounds on taxis and luxury travel is simply unacceptable.

“The MoD needs to crack down on waste and ensure scarce resources are focussed on the frontline.”
An MOD spokesperson said: “This Government is committed to securing value for money for taxpayers and cracking down on waste.
“These journeys involved multiple passengers and a significant amount of baggage.
“As a large organisation with remote sites across the UK and bases around the world, our staff sometimes need to travel to locations that are not always accessible by public transport.”
