Shooting at amateur football match leaves one dead and six injured as gunmen ride up touchline and open fire

A MAN has been killed and six others wounded after gunmen opened fire during an amateur football match.

The attackers drove up to the touchline on a motorbike and fired shots into a crowd of people.

Players and spectators scattered as a witness captured the gunfire on their phone.

The shooting happened in the city of San Francisco del Rincón in Guanajuato State, Mexico, at about 2.40pm on Sunday.

Seven people were hit and six remain in hospital, NeedToKnow reports.

One victim later died in hospital after relatives drove the wounded away themselves.

The city council said they would help the injured and their families and work with investigators.

Gunmen have struck amateur matches in the state before, including a massacre in Salamanca in January that left 11 dead.

The investigation continues.
