Inside Oasis star Noel Gallagher’s love affair with football, from Man City party to Wonderwall becoming England anthem

NOEL GALLAGHER has long been one of Manchester City’s most famous supporters, and few things sum up his love for the club better than joining the players in a dressing-room rendition of Wonderwall.

The Oasis legend was invited into the City dressing room after their stunning 2018/19 title triumph.

Pep Guardiola‘s side had beaten Liverpool to the Premier League crown by just a single point, finishing on 98 points to the Reds’ 97.

After beating Brighton 4-1 at the Amex Stadium on the final day, the players celebrated their back-to-back league titles in style with Gallagher right in the middle of it.

The City-mad rocker joined the squad as they belted out Oasis classic Wonderwall, before joining in himself as the dressing-room party continued.

It was a fitting soundtrack given the song’s status as one of the biggest anthems in British football.

Gallagher has never been shy about celebrating City’s success.

The 59-year-old was back in the stands for Sunday’s Manchester derby as City beat Manchester United 1-0 thanks to Erling Haaland‘s controversial winner.

The cameras repeatedly picked Gallagher out during the dramatic goal controversy, including Haaland‘s strike initially appeared to have been ruled out.

Gary Neville couldn’t resist the perfect Oasis reference, telling viewers: “Don’t Look Back In Anger.”

Gallagher reflected on the experience of going to Old Trafford with his two sons.

He told talkSPORT: “Ordinarily I wouldn’t [go]. I don’t like going to Old Trafford because it can get a bit spicy getting in and out, but they were there.

“They were so keen to go because they’d never been, so I went for them really and they got stuck into it big time and it was a great, great day.”

“There comes a point in your time as a father where you look at your children and you think, ‘My god, I brought you up well’ – when they feel it as much as you do and when they get it.

“Let’s not forget, when you’re in that away end and the United fans are in front of you, they’re giving it to you as much as you’re giving it to them.

“But he made the newspapers today and my heart is full of pride for my sons who got stuck into it yesterday and got stuck into the United fans as well.”

Gallagher’s relationship with City has long gone far beyond simply turning up for matches.

He has celebrated title wins with the players, goes to games regularly, and was even part of TNT Sports‘ commentary team for Manchester City‘s 4-1 defeat against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League in November 2024 alongside Darren Fletcher and Ally McCoist.

As for Oasis, the iconic Manchester band are set to be in the limelight again in 2027 following their world tour last year – when the Gallagher brothers re-united to play concerts again for the first time in 16 years.

Next summer, the Etihad is among the venues where they will play.

Oasis will perform an incredible 11 dates at City’s home, alongside shows at some of Europe’s biggest football stadiums.

Those include Celtic Park, Bayern Munich‘s Allianz Arena, Barcelona‘s Olympic Stadium, the Stade de France (which hosted the 2022 Champions League final), Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, and Ajax’s Johan Cruyff Arena.

It is another reminder of how closely Oasis have become intertwined with football culture.

And this summer, their influence stretched beyond club football.
