THIS is the harrowing moment a man was gored in the chest by a raging bull during a Spanish festival.

Footage showed the Spaniard, identified only as Manuel, climbing a fence separating the crowds as the beast charged towards them.

The 58-year-old clung to the barrier in desperation before slipping by mistake – and eventually falling victim to the animal.

Manuel collapsed as soon as the horns tore through his body, causing a deep open wound.

Revellers raced to his aid, while a staff member appeared to try to distract the bull.

But people had to drag the man under the barrier by his feet as the bull appeared to go for him a second time.

The incident happened during the last day of the running of the bulls festival in Navalcarnero, about 20 miles southwest of Madrid.

The victim was “very seriously injured” and was airlifted to hospital.

A spokesperson for an emergency response coordination centre said: “A 58-year-old man has been seriously injured after being gored during the running of the bulls in Navalcarnero.

“He had a wound to the left hemithorax. He underwent surgery in the bullring.”

Navalcarnero’s bull events are among the oldest in the region, drawing large crowds every September.

The incident comes just weeks after a British man, 86, was among at least 57 people wounded during a similar festival in the city of Pamplona.

The man, from Halesowen in the West Midlands, was taken to hospital on the last morning of the eight-day annual event after suffering injuries to his right hand, left elbow and right eyebrow.

Two Spaniards were also gored – an 18-year-old local man was wounded in the left thigh, while a 46-year-old man from Guadalajara suffered a horn to the chest.

Between 200 and 300 people are injured each year in Pamplona, which is the largest such festival in Spain.

While trampling injuries and gorings are more common, at least 16 deaths have occurred during runs over the past 116 years.

Earlier this month a woman, 64, was impaled to death at another event in the village of Ayna in the province of Albacete.

The unnamed victim, who hailed from Catalonia, had been visiting the area with her husband.

Footage of the sickening September 5 attack shows her attempting to climb to safety as a herd of bulls march towards her.

As the bulls get closer, the woman waves her hand towards them and they appear to move past her.
