DOING our laundry in the colder months can be tough.

Freezing temperatures, wet weather and no sunshine mean hanging our washing outside is impossible, which in turn leaves us with fewer options.

Plus, heavy fabrics, larger loads, and lack of drying space indoors often sees us reaching for our tumble dryers occasionally.

But this, of course, leaves a lot of homeowners anxious, as these can be expensive to run.

Luckily, one laundry expert has revealed their tumble dryer trick that is a “game changer” this winter.

And the best part is, all it costs is just a couple of pounds.

Gwil Snook, laundry pro at AO.com, has revealed that a tennis ball can make all the difference if you have to use your tumble dryer this winter.

Just pop a few in with your massive load and let it work its magic.

Not only can it help dry clothes faster and reduce wrinkles, but it can even help cut down on energy bills.

Shoppers can pick up tennis balls for as little as £1 each in stores like Hobbycraft.

Gwil says: “Adding a tennis ball or two to your tumble-drying cycle will help clothes dry faster by moving air around the machine, which in turn helps prevent wrinkling.

“Tennis balls work in the same way as woollen ‘dryer balls’ but can be a cheaper and more durable option.

“The bouncing action of the balls helps to separate clothes, preventing them from clumping together.

“This allows hot air to circulate better, resulting in a quicker drying time.

“Not only that, but your clothes will come out less creased, eliminating the need for ironing.

“This trick works in all types of tumble dryers and is especially handy for bulky items like duvets or towels.

“Plus, the quicker drying time means you’ll use less energy, which is great for your wallet and the planet.”
