The cast and crew gathered at Elstree Studios for the celebrity and professional dancer pairings set to air on BBC1 next Saturday.
The 39-year-old presenter was seen getting emotional while filming the pre-recorded BBC One launch show after taking over from hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
The pro dancer – who served on the show for eight years – was comforted by co-host Emma Willis, 50, who is thought to have held his hand during a heart-warming speech and thanking the audience.
They duo are set to take to the ballroom alongside comedian Josh Widdicombe, 43, for new presenting duties.

Speaking ahead of filming, Johannes previously admitted that landing a presenting role was “never on the cards”.
He said: “But I’ve always thought, if there was a way to still stick around with the show, it would be in that position as a judge. I think that’s just all I saw for myself.
“And when this came along, I was just like, ‘They’re asking me to speak to the magic of this show. What could be so difficult about it?’ But now I’m in it, I’ve realised, ‘Oh, like this is a different ball game’.
“But honestly, I found my way of sticking around. I’m happy just to still be a part of it.”

The drastic shake-up is said to be ‘virtually unrecognisable’ as it welcomes the new hosts and dancers.
Five new professional ballroom dancers will also make their entrance on the dancefloor for the first time.
The “Clauditorium” — the balcony area of the studio previously used by Claudia — has now been nicknamed Jojo’s Dojo and Josh Pit as the presenters took turns to host there.
While the class of 2026 has been revealed, a list of who the stars will be paired with was leaked online.
Taking to X, one user, who is known for exposing Strictly spoilers, has listed all of the pairings.
But fans don’t have long to wait to find out, as the launch show airs on Saturday, September 19.
