GARY NEVILLE hit out at officials after Erling Haaland’s controversial opener for Manchester City in the Manchester Derby.
Ten-man City took the lead midway through the second half against rivals Manchester United after Haaland converted from Josko Gvardiol’s cross.
There was confusion over how the goal could stand given Haaland appeared to be well offside.
Play was paused for a lengthy spell as VAR agonised over the incident for several minutes.
They also checked to see whether Enzo Fernandez had interfered in the build-up to the goal.
But it was deemed that Patrick Dorgu played Haaland on and the goal was given – a decision which sparked fury among fans and Neville was fuming too.
He told Sky Sports: “They have given the goal… I’m lost. I’m going to need the offside rule explained to me.”
Neville added: “The officials will be nervous about this goal.
“When they look back on this, they will recognise they got this wrong.
“The question is does Fernandez, who is offside, stop Martinez getting the ball? He does.”

The Premier League confirmed Haaland was onside without getting into specifics – but said Fernandez was offside without touchingthe ball.
A statement read: “VAR checked the referee’s call of no goal for offside – and determined that Haaland was in an onside position and recommended that the goal was awarded.
“The VAR also deemed that while in an offside position, Fernandez didn’t play the ball.”
Fans also raged at referee Michael Oliver and VAR officials for the strange call.
It was the second controversial decision after Phil Foden was sent off in the first half for lashing out at Bruno Fernandes – despite the playmaker kicking him first.
One fan wrote on X: “Man United are getting robbed in broad daylight because how is Enzo and Haaldn not offside?”
Another said: “Clearest offside I’ve seen… embarrassingly bad.”
