A WOMAN, 30 and girl, 15, have been arrested after a car drove the wrong way down a major motorway and smashed into another vehicle, leaving a man hospitalised.
Emergency services rushed to the M1 near Wakefield late on Friday night after receiving reports of a collision, which led to the closure of the northbound carriageway.

West Yorkshire Police reported that a blue Kia Proceed had failed to stop for cops while driving the wrong way up the M1 on the northbound carriageway.
The driver of the Dacia, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with potentially life-changing injuries.
Three people – including an 18-year-old man, a 15-year-old girl and a 30-year-old woman – have been arrested for causing injury by reckless driving.
The woman was also arrested for being over the prescribed limit.

Another person reportedly fled the scene.
In an initial warning on social media at 11.59pm last night, the traffic agency wrote: “The M1 is closed northbound between J39 and J41 near Wakefield due to a serious collision.
“Traffic is currently stopped on the southbound carriageway between J41 and J40.
“There are delays of 20 minutes on the approach in both directions.”

In an update this morning, National Highways confirmed that the M1 had been fully reopened in both directions.
Cops are calling on anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward with information.
