A MAN has died after a two-bedroom flat on the 17th floor of a tower block went up in flames, as a woman and child manged to flee.
Some 50 other residents of the block in Poplar, east London, also managed to escape before firefighters were at the scene at around 4.35am today, September 12.

An investigation into the fire has already been launched.
Initially, London Fire Brigade (LFB) said a woman and child had been rescued from the burning apartment.
Then in an update this afternoon, they announced a man had died in the blaze.
Around 70 firefighters tackled the fire on Blackwall Way, across the Thames form the 02, and were able to get the blaze under control by 6.41am.

Half of the property in the 22-storey residential block was damaged, LFB said.
An LFB spokesperson said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to a flat fire on Blackwall Way in Poplar.
“A two-room flat and balcony on the 17th floor of a 22-storey residential block of flats was damaged by fire.
“Two adults and one child were rescued by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus.

“Sadly, a man was declared dead at the scene.
“A further 50 people left the building before the Brigade arrived on scene and are currently at a rest centre.”
Crews from across east London were sent to help tackle the blaze.
The LFB added: “A range of factors are being investigated regarding the cause of the fire.”
