A PARKRUN was forced to cancel after a swarm of hornets attacked some runners, with at least one rushed to hospital.
Bestwood village parkrun in Nottinghamshire said they were dealing with an “unexpected issue,” with several runners being stung “multiple times”.
One runner was also left hospitalised as a result of being stung.
In a post shared on social media, the local exercise group said it had identified a native hornets nest near one of its routes.
The wasps are super sensitive to vibration and CO2, which explains why a group of runners heading past would set them off.
“On the advice of the park rangers, we won’t be running past the nest until the colony settles down.

“We don’t have a firm timeline yet and it could be a few weeks, but the core team are looking at our options and will keep you posted as soon as we know more,” the post read.
An upcoming run for this weekend has also been cancelled.
European hornets, which are most commonly found in the UK, pose no real harm unless you are allergic to its venom.
But unlike honey bees, which can only sting you once, the insects can attack multiple times as they have smooth stingers that do not get stuck in human skin.
