According to Adrija’s father, Virendra Tiwari, the driver had passed the exact same spot just five minutes before the fatal collision, narrowly missing the girls when his wife pulled them to safety.

He said: “He knew there were children at the turning, but even then he was speeding when he crossed the spot for the second time.”

Following the collision, the driver stopped and tried to help, according to Virendra.

He was later arrested and the car was seized by police.

Gurugram Police spokesman Sandeep Turan said the unnamed 30-year-old suspect works for a private company.

Officers registered a case against him for causing death by negligence and rash driving at Sector 5 police station on September 8.

Police said the driver told investigators that he had not seen the children in the road because it was dark.

The family are originally from Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh and had been living in Gurugram for several years.

Police have launched an investigation into the tragic incident.

It comes as two children from the same family were killed on their way to school in a horror car crash near Melbourne, Australia.

Sarah El Hawli, seven, died at the scene as Ossama El Hawli, 11, was rushed hospital but later tragically died.

A 34-year-old female driver and the seven children were inside the car when it flipped and “inexplicably rolled” near Bacchus Marsh on Tuesday.
