Trick Williams explains what life is like with wife Lash Legend in WWE and how his hit theme song was made

TRICK WILLIAMS has opened up about his relationship with his wife Lash Legend behind the scenes in WWE.

The pair quietly got married earlier this year in Jamaica before United States champion Williams announced to the world during a SmackDown taping in London that the pair got hitched.

Legend has been making moves in her own right. The 29-year-old, who played three times in the WNBA, has already been a tag team champion alongside Nia Jax.

But they both came through WWE‘s developmental system in Orlando, Florida, after switching from other sports. In Williams’ case, he moved from American Football where he got as far as a tryout with the Philadelphia Eagles.

After both making their way through NXT, they both now star on WWE’s blue brand, SmackDown, but a little more insight into their relationship has been watchable on Netflix‘s Unreal documentary series.

SunSport spoke to Williams about learning from the best, working with his wife, and how his hit theme song came to be.

Names like DDP have spoken glowingly to us about you recently, have you been able to get any words of wisdom from other legends in the game?

“You’ve got to be a student of the game. If you want to be great, you’ve got to learn from those who were great. I was working with Shawn Michaels every Tuesday. Terry Taylor, Booker T – a lot of greats who took a lot of time to pull ol’ Trick Willie to the side and say ‘hey man, let’s turn this thing up a bit.’”

How was sharing what you’re like behind the scenes with your wife Lash Legend on Unreal?

“Funnily enough, a lot of that stuff, I didn’t know they was recording! I was like ‘oh, you used this? You used that?!’ Ok cool.’

“But that’s what me and Lash do, we just like to have fun. When we are away from the business, we just kind of find our own hobbiesthatn we can enjoy and just relax and get away.

“But it was dope man and really cool to show people how Trick Willie really move.”

How has your wrestling life changed for having Lash in it?

“She’s become such an intricate part of everything that I do. She helps with everything. When I say everything, I mean literally everything.

“When I say everything, literally everything, you know, she helped me pack my bags, make sure that all my stuff is, you know, clean and dry clean.

“I’m wearing white all the time, you know what I mean? You can’t wear white unless it’s clean! So she makes sure we’re going to the dry cleaners. She’s just so helpfu;, she’s a blessing.

“And me being the same to her, supporting everything that she has going on. So yeah, man, it’s just a perfect fit, the perfect match.”

And announcing the marriage in the UK, eh!

“I announced that I’m a married man right there in the UK, and people went crazy. Whoop that trick chants on a marriage announcement is crazy! So, shout out to the UK.

“Lash, she’s the type; she makes everything look so easy, you know what I mean? She’s always been like that even before I knew her, like with sports, you’d be surprised what she’s the most athletic specimen on the roster, man, woman, doesn’t matter, point blank period.

“As probably the biggest girl – maybe second biggest girl on the roster – she can still cut backflips. She can go to the basketball gym and hit 20 straight three-pointers, you know what I mean?

“She’s like, ‘oh, I wish I played football because I would have played linebacker’, and she’s probably right! Because she’s that good at everything she does.

“So, you know, watching her performance is the easy part because she’s just a natural. And it’s just a matter of time before she gets more and more and more accolades and I’m excited to see.”

Talk us through how your theme song is put together – it was a hit straight away!

“Mind you, this is probably like my third or fourth SmackDown period. I was new to the main roster at this time, we went straight to the European tour.

“And when I say Wembley Arena erupted… You can never predict these things,you never know how you’re gonna be perceived overseas, how people would take to you. How it translates through the TV, how it translates from NXT or TNA etc.

“So, man, when they play that music and the people went crazy, man, it gives me juice. It gives me energy, you know what I mean?

“The more energy the crowd gives me, the more energy I can give back, and that’s exactly what happened at Wembley, and it was just a dope moment, dope environment, and look, anytime we say we got a show in the UK, then sign Trick Willie up.

“When the first time they played the song without the chants, there’s no chants in the song, it’s just instrumental and it’s exactly what I asked for.

“I said I want heavy horns at the beginning because I’m royalty, you know what I mean? People need to acknowledge me as such. Then I said I need some beat, you know, some hip hop feel to it, 808 drums, everything like that, and a lot of bass.

“My pops, when he would ride in the car back in the day, you know, he used to call it boom boom. It’s just like bass, you know, in the trunk, you know, he had some twelves in there or whatever and we’ll ride through neighbourhoods, we go to the grocery store, it didn’t matter and he just has the beats thumping.
