FANS have discovered that Atletico Madrid star Marcos Llorente has named his dog Anfield.

The pet’s cheeky name is another dig as the 31-year-old continues to torment Liverpool.

Llorente opted to name his pug after the iconic Premier League stadium after knocking Liverpool out of the Champions League in 2020.

He bagged a brace as Atletico secured a 3-2 win in extra-ime to march into the quarter-finals of the European competition.

While the Spanish side ultimately fell 2-1 against RB Leipzig in the following round, Anfield has remained a happy hunting ground for Llorente.

Llorente bagged another brace against Liverpool during last season’s Champions League group stage.

This was followed by a fifth Anfield goal in the 17th minute of Atletico’s opening-round visit to Merseyside during this season’s campaign.

The defender’s pug’s name has led several fans on social media to note Llorente’s “special connection” with Anfield.

One fan on X said: “Marcos Llorente owns Anfield like it’s his local five-a-side cage, absolute menace.”

Another commented: “Named his dog Anfield and keeps feeding it goals.”

Llorente’s continued form at the historic ground prompted TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher to mention the pooch’s name.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard was then quick to suggest what he would name a pet if he followed in the same vein.

Gerrard said: “I’d call mine Goodison!”

However, only three of Gerrard’s ten goals scored in the Merseyside Derby actually came at Goodison Park, with the other seven being scored at Anfield.

Unfortunately for Llorente, his goal was not enough as Liverpool recovered to claim a 2-1 win against the LaLiga side.

To make matters worse, the sides will be banned from facing each other at Anfield in next season’s league phase after a Uefa rule change.

Liverpool are next set to host Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Atletico will travel away to Real Sociedad for a LaLiga clash on Sunday.
