CLOBBER regrets – got a few? Research from Oxfam reveals half of us have at least one fashion turkey hanging in the wardrobe.

So the charity is urging people to ditch fast fashion choices and help the planet.

Changing your relationship with shopping can also stop you wasting money on clothes you don’t need or wear . . .

BUY WITH CARE: Getting clothes at the touch of a button can mean we don’t always think the process through.

Around two thirds of people have bought clothes they weren’t looking for after seeing them on social media, Oxfam says. Try creating a weekly or monthly spending budget to update your wardrobe.

Instead of buying pieces instantly, list or save items. At the end of the week or month, go back to your list and decide what your wardrobe really needs and how to best spend your cash.

Opting out of brand emails and unfollowing social accounts that encourage buying can help you resist impulse buys.

FIND YOUR STYLE: You are less likely to fall for fast fads If you know the colours and shapes that suit you.

Take stock of your wardrobe and note the styles you love, that make you feel confident time and time again.

If you’re not sure, John Lewis and Fenwick offer free personal styling sessions to help identify your core style.

BE CREATIVE: Shopping secondhand is one way to see style as more creative and individual than something you need to frantically keep up with all the time.

Most current fashions draw on inspiration from previous decades, so look for vintage pieces to experiment with new trends without buying new each time.

Oxfam is giving away free craft crochet kits this September to inspire people to think about style and the process that goes into making up a wardrobe. Get yours at oxfamapps.org.uk/crochet-kit.
