NIGEL Farage has backed calls for a for a nationwide ban on face coverings in public spaces.
His stance comes as the first city in the UK is preparing to ban balaclavas from next week, with offenders who refuse to comply facing a maximum penalty of £1,000.
Mr Farage wrote in The Telegraph yesterday: “If you want to walk on British streets, participate in British public life, and enjoy the protections of British law, you must be prepared to show your face.”
Anti-migrant protest leader Danny Tommo confronted Zia Yusuf during a Sky interview on Monday, warning that Nigel Farage needs to be “careful” with his words after he called the mask-wearing Dover protesters “disgusting”.
He told Reform UK’s spokesperson for home affairs: “We have working-class men who are bricklayers, roofers, carpenters.
“They build the houses you live in, the roads you drive on. They build all that stuff. They hide their faces because they know they’re going to be targeted… we’re not trying to intimidate anyone.”
