WHAT did yesterday’s love-in between Andy Burnham and Emmanuel Macron actually achieve?
For a start, don’t expect the small boats to stop any time soon.
It’s still hugely in France’s interest to let migrants set sail and wait for British border forces to rescue them – especially as we pay £1billion for the privilege.
Burnham’s welcoming of a measly 45 extra officers to patrol hundreds of miles of northern French coastline shows the Government is still pathetically grateful for minimum French support.
Yesterday, he couldn’t help gushing over France’s role in another terrible idea: helping him achieve closer ties to the EU. Sir Keir Starmer was conned by Macron into huge giveaways as part of his notorious “reset”.
That included meekly taking rules and standards on food and energy and agreeing to a “youth mobility” scheme for EU workers under 30.
