A MAJOR British supermarket chain with over 600 stores has suddenly shut a city centre branch “until further notice”.
Shoppers have been redirected to another store in the area as the supermarket works to reopen the branch “as soon as possible”.
Sainsbury’s Local, located on Liverpool’s Castle Street, has unexpectedly shut until further notice.
The bustling store is situated in the city centre’s business district, welcoming commuters, office workers and tourists every day.
Sainsbury’s has now confirmed, however, that the store’s sudden closure is only a temporary decision.
While an official opening date has not been set, the store hopes to welcome customers back soon.

A Sainsbury’s spokesperson told The Sun: “We’re sorry that our Castle Street Local store is temporarily closed while we carry out essential maintenance works.
“We’re working to reopen the store as soon as possible and in the meantime, customers can shop at our nearby Sainsbury’s Nations House Local.”
Sainsbury’s, currently Britain’s second largest grocer, has more than 600 supermarkets and 885 Local stores.
The Castle Street branch has served customers for over 23 years, opened in 2003 as Sainsbury’s 50th local store.

Until the store reopens, shoppers can visit the supermarket’s five nearby branches in Liverpool’s city centre.
This includes its Nations House branch on Edmund Street just a few minutes walk away, or its larger supermarket store on Great Homer Street.
