THE driver of a car carrying Anthony Joshua was attempting to overtake another vehicle when it crashed, killing two of the boxer’s friends, a court has heard.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid license.

He denies the charges.
Joshua was in the car with his personal trainer Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, who were both killed in the collision.
The group, who were asleep at the time of the crash, had been travelling to visit the boxer’s father in Ogun, near Lagos, when Kayode lost control of the vehicle, a court heard.
The driver, who was not a friend of Joshua’s, has been accused of attempting to overtake a moving truck when he smashed into a parked lorry.

The former world heavyweight champion, 36, was rushed to hospital following the collision on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Makun.
Separately, the driver of the stationary lorry that the car crashed into, Abubakar Adamu, 35, has denied the charge against him of obstructing the free flow of traffic.
Inspector Christopher Ajayi Taiwo of the Ogun State Motor Traffic Division told the court that both vehicles had been removed by the time he arrived at the scene.
A logbook, some painkillers and an energy drink were recovered from the site of the crash near the driver’s side, he added.

Local cops have not yet taken a statement from Joshua, the court also heard.
Kayode’s lawyer asked Ajayi why this was the case, to which he replied he “didn’t have his number”.
The trial has been adjourned until September 10.
The deadly crash took place in December 2025, just 10 days after Joshua claimed victory in a blockbuster fight against YouTuber-turned-boxing star Jake Paul.
He made a return to fighting in July, going up against Kristian Prenga.
After the match, he broke down in tears and paid tribute to Ayodele and Ghami.
The star said: “I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
He had stepped into the ring on that night wearing his pals’ names on pendants pinned to his chest.
Joshua also explained how he had spent months suppressing the pain of their loss.
In February, he had the names of “LATZ” and “SINA” tattooed on his bicep.
He said a month earlier: “My goal is to help their families and to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here in the physical.
“I will be saying my prayers, and I’m going to help them fulfill their dreams for their families.
“It’s not only me though helping. There’s a whole team working on that stuff.
“There is a whole system that will be helping fulfill their legacy, fulfill their dreams.
