TWO women have been killed, while a man is fighting for his life after a car plunged into the sea off a ferry in Spain.
There were four people inside the vehicle who were travelling to the city of Tangier, in Morocco, when the incident happened just past midnight.
Becoming disoriented by the fog, the driver headed directly towards the ramp that was connecting the ship to land during boarding.
Within moments, the car – made even heavier by their luggage – was deep underwater in the port of Algeciras in Cadiz.
The driver, a man in his 50s, managed to swim out and was treated at the scene.
The second man, who was strapped in the passenger seat, also managed to free himself and has been taken to hospital in critical condition.

Civil guards of the Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) rushed to the scene and tried to rescue the two women, aged 43 and 71, who were in the back of the car.
When they found them, nothing could be done to save them and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Staff on the ferry had showed the driver where he should park, but for some reason, the car continued its journey and headed directly towards the ramp.
The identities and nationalities of the victims have not yet been released.

The emergency device mobilised members of Maritime Rescue, Civil Guard, Special Group of Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Civil Guard, health services, National Police, Fire Brigade Consortium and Port Police.
A full investigation is now underway.
Vehicles falling off ferries usually happen due to ramp failures, shifting mooring lines, or driver accelerating by accident.
In July 2025, a Tesla plunged off a ferry in Montreal, Canada, but its driver managed to escape the sinking vehicle and make it to shore.
The incident happened as the car was disembarking from the Paule II, a small ferry between Île-Bizard and Laval.
A Laval police spokesperson said one of the mooring lines had detached as cars were disembarking, causing the ferry to drift away from the dock, with the Tesla falling into the gap.
