MANCHESTER UNITED have the highest net spend in world football over the last decade, despite Chelsea handing out nearly £1BILLION more.
Transfermarkt figures going back to the start of the 2016/17 season show United have splashed around £1.77bn on players.

But they have brought in just £519m from sales, leaving them with a net spend of around £1.25bn and taking them to the top of the spending table.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have spent the most overall by some distance after forking out around £2.67bn on new arrivals.
That is more than £900m than United.
But the Blues have also brought in around £1.83bn from player sales, leaving them with a much lower net spend of £836m.

And when it comes to it Manchester City, Arsenal AND Tottenham all sit above Chelsea when it comes to money spent minus money received.
City are second behind United on around £1.10bn, followed by Arsenal on £1.09bn and Spurs on £942m.
Chelsea’s huge turnover is also clear from the numbers, with 83 arrivals and 125 departures compared with United’s 48 signings and 48 exits.
United’s record signing came right at the start of the period when Paul Pogba returned from Juventus for a then-world-record £89m in 2016.

City smashed their own transfer record this summer by signing Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for £125m on deadline day.
That matched the British transfer record and came only weeks after they splashed another £116m on Elliot Anderson.

Chelsea also broke their club record in July by paying Aston Villa £117m for Morgan Rogers, knocking £115m Moises Caicedo off top spot.
But Fernandez going the other way for £125m helps show exactly why their net figure is so much lower despite the amount they have spent.
Arsenal’s biggest deal remains the £105m move for Declan Rice from West Ham in 2023.
Meanwhile Liverpool broke the British record last year with their £125m move for Alexander Isak.

They nearly matched it again this summer by landing Bradley Barcola from PSG for an initial £107m, while Tottenham also joined the £100m club with Sandro Tonali.
Outside England, PSG sit fourth for total spending over the period and still hold the world record after paying Barcelona £200m for Neymar in 2017.
Barcelona are ninth despite their huge £142m move for Philippe Coutinho, while Real Madrid are only 14th after breaking their club record this summer for £115m Yan Diomande.
