Taking to social media the “gutted” star told fans: “I’ve got an announcement to make.

“On Sunday, I was meant to be wearing this shirt for Prostate Cancer UK during the Stage 4 ride with Chris Hoy.”

Pointing to his injured ankle which was in a leg brace, John Bishop said: “Unfortunately, I won’t be there. I won’t be able to wear this shirt this year because of this.”

The comedian then explained what happened: “I went out for a motorbike ride today with Tim Peake who’s a brilliant lad and a great motorcyclist and I learnt a lesson today – astronauts are better motorcyclists than comedians um and so it looks like I’ve broke my ankle which means unfortunately Ican’t do the ride.”

He only got into motorcycling three years ago, after his late father-in-law left him his scooter when he passed away.

The comedian has since upgraded to a BMW bike, and uses it to ride to his gigs on his stand-up tour.

“I just thought ‘That looks like the proper way of doing it,” he previously said to ITV about his new fancy motorbike.

“So I then took my test – which is something I’ve always wanted to do.

“And I thought ‘Well, I can make it part of my tour’, so I can travel on the motorbike and do gigs along the way. So that’s where it came from.”
