HANNAH Waddingham has mocked Delia Smith’s famous “let’s be ‘aving you” football chant on Ted Lasso.

In the latest episode of the AppleTV series, Hannah’s character Rebecca Welton replicated the famous chef’s impromptu half-time moment as she delivered a speech on the pitch during a Premier League match in 2005.

In new scenes, Rebecca, who plays the fierce owner of the AFC Richmond football club, was left heartbroken after her Dutch boyfriend suggested they take a break.

Depressed Rebecca drowned her sorrows and began drinking while watching the AFC Richmond women’s team lose to Chelsea.

At half time she goes on the pitch to make what is supposed to be a polite speech, but she’s so drunk she appears to emulate Delia’s infamous rant.

Twenty years ago, Delia surprised fans when she performed a speech at a Norwich football match against Manchester City.

Norwich had a 2-0 lead, but Manchester City came back to make it 2-2 before half-time.

The TV chef, who was the owner of Norwich Club at the time, screamed at the supporters “let’s be ‘avin’ you!”.

Delia told the crowd: “A message for the best football supporters in the world: we need a twelfth man here. Where are you? Where are you? Let’s be havin’ you! Come on!”

It became a legendary moment, but many fans mocked the star for the outburst.

Similarly, Ted Lasso recreated the moment as Rebecca got up in front of the crowd and repeatedly yelled: “Where are you?”

And right at the end of her rant Rebecca also repeats Delia’s iconic phrase “lets be having you!”.

Despite the nod to Delia, she won’t be happy as she previously hinted that she was embarrassed by the moment.

In 2024, Delia reflected on the speech and still seemed sheepish about it.

She told Lauren Laverne on the BBC‘s Desert Island Discs: “I was trying to get somebody to put it on the message board – ‘come on, where are you – because they were like church mice and we were losing.

“Somebody just gave me the microphone and said ‘say it’… and I forgot, Lauren, I just forgot, that Sky were there, because you don’t know they’re there, you know what I mean? There’s always cameras anyway. And that’s what happened.

“I had letters from football supporters from one end of the country to the other. It was wonderful…[but] the first week wasn’t. The first week there were people in the press saying I should be brought before a disciplinary committee at the FA.

“I go to away matches and they all call out ‘let’s be having you, Delia’. It’s lovely, I love it.”

Speaking about her time on the club board, Delia said: “First and foremost, it’s a beautiful game.

“It’s irritating, it’s disappointing, you have pain, you have ecstasy, it’s all those things. But I think one of the things that is so good about it now, in this day and age, is its community. It’s one of the few places where community really does thrive.”

Delia and her husband, Michael Wynn Jones, became joint majority shareholders in the late 1990s, but she no longer holds the majority stake.
