KATIE Price may now face a lengthy legal battle to maintain hold of her personal fortune as she prepares for a messy divorce battle with Lee Andrews.

Pals of the star last night said she remained in a “buoyant mood”, however, after finally calling time on her eight month marriage.

Her friends and family are also said to be “deeply relieved” by the news, whilst a Sun poll – commissioned in the wake of this newspaper revealing the union was over – showed 93 per cent of readers believe she has made the right decision.

Last night a pal added: “Although this marriage has been played out so publicly, and followed by people online every step of the way, it was real to Katie.

“She went into it with an open heart and mind, and no agenda. But now she realises things could turn nasty and the worry is Lee may fight for some of her money as they had no pre-nup in place.

“Right now though, she is focusing on her family and her career, and has some exciting things lined-up.”

The couple married within 10 days of meeting in January, making the relationship legally binding in a Dubai court the following month.

A UAE judge oversaw their nuptials, and they were handed a wedding certificate.

Lee is understood to have been informed by WhatsApp on Monday that the relationship was over.

Family barrister Rhianna Manani from No.5 Chambers tells The Sun: “The fact they married abroad doesn’t necessarily make it any less valid here, but it will depend on whether the correct legal requirements were followed where they married.

“If the marriage is recognised, Katie may face another hurdle: you generally have to be married for at least a year before you can apply for divorce in England and Wales.

“An annulment isn’t simply a quick alternative to divorce, and this marriage could involve some complex factors.

“There may, for example, be a suggestion that Lee’s conduct has had a negative impact on Katie’s earning capacity.

“If that were established and considered relevant by the court, it could potentially be taken into account when determining what Lee may be entitled to financially.

“Lee being in prison doesn’t automatically prevent her from taking legal steps, but with an overseas marriage and a spouse currently behind bars abroad, the legal position may not be entirely straightforward.

“Even without a pre-nup, the fact that this appears to have been an incredibly short marriage would be relevant in the event of any dispute about finances.”

Speaking on Good Morning Britain today, Susanna Reid and Ed Balls invited the alleged conman onto the sofa for his first TV interview.

Lee also looks likely to continue raking it in on personalised messaging app, Cameo, once he is released from Al Awir prison where he has remained holed-up for the past eight weeks.

The couple’s marriage, which was plagued by unsavoury headlines pertaining to the Dubai-based businessman’s dodgy dealings, has dominated social media for much of the year.
