A man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving after two cyclists were killed in a crash.
Kent Police said the incident occurred in the Kent village of Cobham near Gravesend at around 7.47am on Sunday, when a white Ford Focus travelling along Sole Street towards Meopham collided with three cyclists.
Two of them – a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s – were confirmed dead by paramedics attending the scene near the junction with Round Street.
The third rider was taken to hospital for treatment for injuries police said were minor.
Aaron Turner, 22, from Hermitage Road, Higham has since been charged with 2 counts of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and possession of a class C drug.
He has been remanded into custody to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
A 21-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 19-year-old woman who was detained on suspicion of assisting an offender have been released on bail.
The force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) has appealed for anyone who has either witnessed the collision, or saw the car or cyclists prior to the incident, to come forward.
Motorists with dashcam equipment or residents with private CCTV have also been urged to get in touch with the force.
