A man has been shot dead in Sydney’s west in what police believe to be a targeted attack.

Emergency services responded to the incident on Bruce Street, Merrylands West following the shooting about 3.15pm on Wednesday.

A man believed to be in his 30s was found with a gunshot wound but died at the scene despite treatment from paramedics, NSW Police said in a statement.

He is yet to be formally identified, but the incident is believed to be related to organised crime.

A crime scene has been established as police investigate the shooting with assistance from homicide detectives.

Vision of the scene posted online by SCN WorldStar showed emergency services outside a home near the corner of Bruce Street and Duffy Street.

The shooting took place a few hundreds metres from a school located on the same street.
