Fintech company Revolut said it had identified a group of about 680 customers that have been impacted by a recent data breach, including 12 in Ireland.

Revolut said it has contacted affected customers directly and is providing ongoing support through the normal channels.

It emerged over the weekend that copies of some Revolut customers’ passports and driving licences, along with their dates of birth, home addresses, email addresses and phone numbers, had been handed to criminals.

Revolut has about 3.4 million customers in Ireland.

“Revolut recently identified a sophisticated external impersonation scam where an unauthorised third party utilised a legitimate government agency domain email to submit fraudulent requests for information,” a Revolut spokesperson said yesterday.

“Upon detection, we immediately blocked the address and alerted the relevant government agency as well as enforcement agencies, data protection, and financial regulators,” the spokesperson added.

The fintech said it will provide further updates if there are any further developments.
