Rescuers have pulled two survivors alive from a tunnel linked to a hydropower station on the Trishuli River, nine days after an ice, rock and mud slide swept through a valley in Nepal, a video released by the Nepalese army showed.

It showed a person lying on a stretcher being pulled out from the ground.

Rescuers cheered as one man emerged through a muddy opening.

The two people are being taken to a hospital in Kathmandu, Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha’s office said in a statement.

Officials and rescue workers believe the 26 August collapse of a glacier on the upper reaches of the Trishuli River trapped at least 900 people in tunnels related to six hydropower projects along the river.

Rescuers called it a “miracle” after the disaster last Wednesday that has killed at least 1,200 people and left more than 5,000 missing in China and Nepal.
