Summer 2026 was the hottest ever recorded in Ireland, according to a provisional report from Met Éireann.
While many people in the seaside town of Bray, Co Wicklow enjoyed the sunny days and hot weather, they also acknowledged that rising temperatures are cause for concern.
“It’s a bit worrying, it’s sad to see the actual effects of climate change in reality here,” Brendan Bergin told RTÉ News.
“It’s not being treated like an emergency at all and it’s a bit sad to see it played-off as a nice thing.”
Aileen Maguire described it as a “beautiful summer” that she enjoyed with her family, but said it does make her worry about the future.
“I worry for my grandchildren because I don’t think it’s going to be sustainable if the weather keeps heating up like this,” she said.
Ian Bolton said the summer temperatures did not worry him as he would “take bad winters if we get good summers”.
He added: “While I said I’m not worried about the summers, long-term, you would be silly not to be worried about climate change.”
