Sarah Sugden’s (Katie Hill) plan to punish Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) after finding out the truth about baby Leyla has well and truly backfired on her, with the Emmerdale character now facing prison herself.
After Charity revealed that baby Leyla wasn’t her biological child, Sarah saw red and changed her statement to the police regarding the death of Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), incriminating her gran for the crime.
The cruelty of Sarah’s actions left her loved ones in shock, with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) threatening to tell Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant) the truth about not only Leyla’s parentage but also the fact that it was Sarah who claimed Todd’s life.
Sarah decided to confess all to Jacob, who turned his back on her, heartbroken that Leyla isn’t his biological child. Jacob, however, soon returned to the village with Leyla and sugggested that he and Sarah leave together. Having finally saw sense, Sarah decided to change her statement back to the original one, hoping it would secure Charity’s freedom.
But DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) decided to keep Sarah in for perverting the course of justice, saying that she intends to find out whether it’s Sarah or Charity that’s truly lying.
The plot thickens! But if you’re eagerly awaiting tomorrow’s visit to the Dales then I’ve got some bad news for you. Emmerdale is off air until Thursday September 17.
For a first look at what’s to come when it returns to screens, we’ve got you covered.
What happens next in Emmerdale? Spoilers for Thursday, September 17 episode
With Sarah having admitted that she lied about Charity killing Todd in cold blood, the police don’t know who to believe. What they do know, however, is that someone is lying – and they intend to find out who it is.
Has Sarah sealed her own fate with her cruel revenge on Charity? Will she be the one that ends up paying? Will the truth about Todd’s demise – a crime carried out by Sarah – ultimately be exposed?
And perhaps most importantly, will poor Charity finally be set free?
Tomorrow’s episode will deal with the aftermath of such a thing as Sarah is forced to face the music for what she’s done.
