WEMBLEY has been overlooked for the 2029 Champions League Final venue – after Euro chiefs handed the game to Barcelona.
The FA had proposed the home of English football as one of three candidates to stage the game.
Borussia Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park – formerly the Westfalen Stadium – was the third option.
But Uefa’s ruling executive committee, meeting in Thessaloniki, Greece, voted in favour of the revamped Nou Camp.
The choice of the newly-renovated 105,000-capacity Catalan cathedral was expected as the £1bn-plus rebuild – due to be finally completed next year – had made the Nou Camp the frontrunner.
Barcelona’s home has surprisingly only played host to European football’s biggest game on two occasions.

Wembley was bidding to host the Champions League Final for a fourth occasion, the last of which was when Real Madrid beat Dortmund in 2024.
The original Wembley hosted five finals in the European Cup era, including wins for Manchester United and Liverpool.
Uefa also confirmed Munich’s Allianz Arena, the only candidate, would stage the 2028 Final – the third at the venue and second in just three years after PSG thumped Inter Milan 5-0 in 2025.
