Temperatures are to begin dropping today after a warm start to the week as a cooler max of 19C is forecast along with scattered showers.
Met Éireann says the country will be caught between low and high pressure this week, creating both rainy spells in the north and below average rain in the southwest.
Today will begin with a mix of sunny spells and scattered rain and temperatures ranging from 14C to 19C, becoming drier tonight at cooler 9C to 12C.
Wednesday will be another generally dry day interspersed with rain along western coastal counties. Temperatures are forecast to range from 13C to 17C, dipping to as low as 9C as earlier rainfall moves eastwards.
The national forecaster says Thursday will be “fresh and breezy” with sunny spells and scattered rain across the west and northwest, and highest temperatures will be between 14C to 17C.
Friday looks to be another rather wet and breezy day, beginning as such in the morning before easing slightly in the afternoon and remaining cloudy for the remainder of the day. Highest temperatures will be between 15C and 19C.
This weekend will be breezy with sunny spells and showers, mostly confined to northern counties.
Temperatures are expected to be above normal for mid-September.
