Over €370,000 in fines imposed by Sligo courts and remain outstanding.
Figures obtained by The Sligo Champion by the Courts Service under the Freedom of Information Act show that over 1,300 fines have not been paid during the period January 1, 2020 to May 31, 2026.
A total of 3,148 fines were imposed across the county’s two district courts, Sligo and Tubbercurry during that period.
In Sligo District Court, the total value of fines imposed is €695,105.02, of which €319,008.11 is outstanding. For Tubbercurry District Court, which only sits once per month, the total value of fines imposed is €158,970.81, of which €57,580 is outstanding.
Of the 1,354 fines still due, 65 fines with a combined value of €18,260 are from 2020.
From January to May this year, 279 fines worth €75,721 have been imposed by Sligo and Tubbercurry District Court.
Fines imposed for criminal offences or statutory breaches are collected by the Courts Service and paid into the central Exchequer to support public services and state finances.
