WELCOME to my weekly column where I pinpoint horses to follow from the past week or two and takes a first look at big races to come.

Let’s give the bookies a right good kicking by snaffling some early value prices.

THUNDER CALL – Ayr Gold Cup, Saturday 10-1

IT looks like the progressive Thunder Call is going to sneak into Saturday’s big sprint near the bottom of the weights.

William Haggas’ sprinter has been consistent this season and was very impressive when winning a decent Ascot handicap by just under three lengths last time out.

That was over 7f but he’s right at home over this trip too and showed his capability in a big field when seeing off 21 rivals at York in June before going close when third at Newmarket next time.

He wouldn’t want a lot more rain as he’s been enjoying quick ground but he went on soft as a juvenile and hopefully it will be no worse than good to soft in western Scotland.

At 10-1 he looks a solid each-way bet with the draw seemingly less important in recent runnings.

SATELLITE OF LOVE (Doncaster, Thursday)

CLIVE COX has a nice prospect in this Minzaal two-year-old who was beaten just half a length by Night In Vegas in the big Sales race.

ROYAL QUEST (Doncaster, Saturday)

THIS was a promising start from this son of Camelot who travelled nicely over the mile on debut.

He looked a nice type and wasn’t asked too many questions in coming home fourth.

He will be winning soon and will stay further than this for in-form Andrew Balding.

GENTLE HURRICANE (Doncaster, Saturday)

ANOTHER Andrew Balding youngster for the notebook, he proved tricky to settle in the Group 2 Champagne Stakes and that cost him late on.

He was a good second in the Acomb before and will improve next season.

MOONFALL (Doncaster, Saturday)

RECOMMENDED STORIES

GEORGE BOUGHEY’s three-year-old probably wouldn’t have beaten Scoville but he wasn’t helped by meeting traffic issues a furlong out before coming home strongly.

Hopefully his mark won’t go up too much from 99 as there are races to be won over a mile.
