A double-decker has crashed on the A40 in west London, causing major traffic congestion.

The incident happened early on Tuesday morning in Northolt.

At 12.20pm, traffic monitor Inrix reported long delays and one lane closed due on Western Avenue heading into central London after A312 Church Road.

Meanwhile on the Tube, the Piccadilly and Metropolitan lines were suffering severe delays.

Traffic camera footage shows tailbacks of vehicles at the Westfield Avenue junction with West End road.

An alert on London Webcam reads: “Western Avenue (Eastbound) at the junction of Long Drive – Lane one (of three) are closed due to recovery work following an earlier collision.”

Double-decker bus crash causing tailbacks in west London

A bus crash in Northolt has caused major issues for drivers on the A40 this morning.

Video footage posted on social media appears to show a TfL London bus that has left the road and come to rest in shrubbery beside the A-road.

The A40 Western Avenue remains partially blocked

Queues reached towards Swakeleys Roundabout, Hillingdon Circus, Hayes and Northolt Park.

Disruption began at around 4.45am, according to reports.

Severe delays on the Metropolitan line

There are now severe delays on the Metropolitan line between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge due to an earlier signal failure at Harrow-on-the-Hill.

Good service on the rest of the line.

Minor delays on the Central line

There are minor delays on the Central line between Loughton and Epping while engineers fix a track fault at Epping.

Minor delays on the Lioness line

Minor delays on the Lioness line now due to an earlier signal failure at Stonebridge Park.

Piccadilly line is part-suspended

There is currently no service between Wood Green and Cockfosters due to a signal failure at Turnpike Lane.

Minor delays on the DLR line

There are currently minor delays on the DLR line between Bank and Canning Town while engineers work to fix a faulty train at Poplar.

Severe delays on the Lioness and Bakerloo lines

Severe delays are affecting the Bakerloo and Lioness lines following an earlier signal failure at Stonebridge Park.

Services were previously suspended in part and then across the lines, but the disruption has since been reduced.

Minor delays impacting the Metropolitan line

Minor delays on the Metropolitan line between Moor Park and Watford due to train cancellations.

Good service on the rest of the line.

Lioness line suspension continues into rush hour

As we enter rush hour now, the Lioness line is still suspended.

This is due to a signal failure at Stonebridge Park.

Passengers are advised to seek alternative routes.
