SHANE LOWRY will bid to build on his spectacular Irish Open victory, as he heads to another happy hunting ground for this week’s BMW PGA Championship.
Lowry’s last solo success before he spreadeagled the field at Doonbeg last week was at Wentworth four years ago.
He will be brimming with confidence. But the bookies are taking the view that it will take him a while to come back to earth after that ELEVEN shot victory, and the Irishman is widely available at 25-1.
It is hard to argue with that assessment, and Rory Mcilroy takes his accustomed position as the 9-1 market leader despite a mediocre performance to finish tied 41st last week.
McIlroy admitted he struggled to read the greens at Doonbeg, but insisted he was happy with the rest of his game.
He could not be more familiar with the greens at Wentworth. He will be making his 15th start at a tournament where he has a win and three second places to his credit.
But let’s be brave, and take on the world No 2………………….

BMW PGA Championship 2026 betting tips
There are actually good reasons to look beyond McIlroy for the value this week, especially as it is now 12 years since he claimed his only victory in the DP World Tour’s flagship event.
A share of 20th place last year showed he was finding it hard to get fully motivated after his 2025 Masters win – and it has been a similar story this time since he made it back-to-back triumphs at Augusta.
Jon Rahm seemed preoccupied by the LIV bankruptcy saga as he finished outside the top twenty in Ireland. So 12-1 looks a bit too short for the double Major champion.
The two players who stand out at the odds are defending champion Alex Noren, a 33-1 shot, and former Masters champion Patrick Reed, who is a best priced 25-1.
Noren is well rested for his title defence. He has not played since narrowly failing to qualify for the Tour Championship in the States, where he was seventh and third in two of his last three starts.
The Swede’s play-off victory over surprise package Adriden Saddier last year was his second victory at Wentworth. He seems to be generously priced for the hat-trick.
Reed has been the model of consistency this year, and his Wentworth record is nothing short of dazzling – he has never finished outside the top five in four outings here.
The way he finished the Irish Open to claim a share of second place behind runaway winner Lowry suggests Reed is ready to maintain that superlative BMW PGA streak.
Saddier’s near miss last year earned him a PGA Tour card – although that did not seem to do him any favours. His share of 39th place in Houston was his best finish of the year, and he has missed ten cuts.
It is no surprise to see him on offer at 175-1, but the each way options that appeal most are Kristoffer Reitan (50-1), Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen (70-1) and Andy Sullivan (140-1).
And do not rule out a bounce back from 2020 Wentworth winner Tyrrell Hatton, despite his miserable Irish Open showing. A 30-1 quote looks fair.
PGA Tour – Biltmore Championship tips
The PGA Tour resumes after a short break, and it is a surprise that only one member of the USA’s Presidents Cup team will tee it up at the Biltmore Championship before next week’s shootout with the Internationals.
That player is Jackson Koivun, a shock wild card choice in his rookie season, although he has attracted the same type of hype as Ludvig Aberg before Luke Donald fast-tracked him into his Ryder Cup team.
Koivun has already opened his PGA Tour account, seeing off Scottie Scheffler at the 3M tournament. On that evidence he deserves his position as a clear 12-1 favourite.
But he could easily be distracted by the prospect of his USA debut, and preference is for Jacob Bridgeman, an old favourite of this column.
Bridgeman is another player very much on an upward curve. So an 18-1 quote looks more than acceptable.
Further down the list, Keita Nakajima (33-1), Kevin Yu (33-1), Johnny Keefer (45-1), and Chris Kirk (66-1) all have solid each way claims.
