Election expert says judge is trying to ‘run out the clock’ on Trump mail-ballot rule

The Supreme Court on Monday rejected the Trump administration’s bid to enforce new U.S. Postal Service rules for mail-in ballots ahead of the 2026 midterms, leaving a lower court’s nationwide block in place.

Justice Samuel Alito, joined by Justice Clarence Thomas, dissented, while Justice Brett Kavanaugh agreed the rules could not be implemented so close to the election.
