Shearer brands Bruno Fernandes ‘pathetic’ as ex-Premier League star says Haaland goal was ‘karma’ for Man Utd captain

MANCHESTER UNITED captain Bruno Fernandes was put on full blast after sparking Manchester City star Phil Foden’s controversial red card during a heated derby.

City beat rivals United with a 1-0 victory following a questionable winner by Erling Haaland despite being a man down since the 23rd minute after Foden, 26, appeared to kick off at Fernandes, 32.

The two stars clashed during Sunday’s Manchester derby at Old Trafford with the Man Utd skipper appearing to tussle with the Man City ace while he was on the ground before the latter’s studs landed on his opponent’s body.

Premier League record scorer Alan Shearer lambasted Fernandes suggesting his “pathetic” reaction was overstimulated.

Shearer, 56, also slammed referee Michael Oliver for his decision to send the England international off with a direct red card.

The Newcastle legend insists the Portugal international was also at fault, thus Oliver should have given both their marching orders if he deemed there was a red-card offence.

Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor agreed with Shearer and that is why he believes Haaland’s controversial winner was “karma” for United.

The Man City superstar hit the back of the net in the hourmark after a long VAR check that overruled Oliver’s offside decision.

The semi-automated offside technology proved Haaland, 26, was covered by Patrick Dorgu but VAR missed the fact Enzo Fernandez interfered in the build-up from an offside position.

Pro Ref – the official refereeing body in England – publicly admitted that was the wrong decision and apologised to the Red Devils.

However, Agbonlahor believes that was justice following Foden’s red card.

The former England international told talkSPORT: “At the end of the day, Bruno Fernandes is a cheat. He’s an outstanding player, but he’s a cheat.

“You’ve kicked Foden twice on the floor, which should have been a red card to you.

“Then Foden’s lashed out a tiny little bit and you’re rolling around when you’re not hurt.
