Police in Northern Ireland are appealing for information to help locate a prisoner convicted of murder who is “unlawfully at large” after absconding from day release.
Gary Anderson, now aged 29, was sentenced to 15 years for the murder of Karol Kelly in 2023.
Father-of-five Mr Kelly died in Grafton Street in Derry in the early hours of 4 March 2018 after an altercation during which he was stabbed several times.
Gary Anderson and his brother Sean Anderson were found guilty of the killing.
He was on day release from prison today. He is a prisoner at HMP Maghaberry, in Co Antrim.
The PSNI said: “As of this time, Gary – who is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, of slim build and with brown hair – has still not returned to prison or been apprehended.
“We appeal directly to Gary to hand himself in.”
He has a scar on his right hand and tattoo of a smiley face on his left ankle, the department of justice said.
The police force has also asked anyone who has seen him, or who knows of his whereabouts, not to approach him directly but to contact police on 101, quoting reference 555 of 14/09/26.
