A POSH glamping site has won a battle to expand despite neighbours complaining about noisy couples romping all night.

Elizabeth Pengelly initially wanted to add more tents to her Welsh farm – Swallows Nest – before it was turned down over fears of noise from amorous couples and late-night drinking.

But now planners have instead given the green light to shepherd’s huts at the farm and moved them further away from homes.

Swallow’s Nest already has two shepherd huts in use for glamping along with a herd of alpacas – and originally wanted to add more tents in the countryside at Abergavenny, Monmouthshire.

But Labour councillor Dale Rooke said the tents would also be too close to the neighbouring property.

He told planners: “Tents are naturally not soundproofed so any shenanigans going on inside will be heard in the wider vicinity.”

But applicant Elizabeth Pengelly submitted a new plan to add one more shepherds hut and washroom on wheels so they can be stored in winter.

Ms Pengelly also insisted rules would be put in place to protect neighbours from noise from the site at Hardwick.

Monmouthshire Council has approved the new plans.

The council previously received a series of objections from neighbours – with some claiming sex noises were keeping them up at night.

Yvonne and Brian Saddler, who have lived next door to the field for 32 years spoke of their upset.

“We moved here those years ago because it is so peaceful and beautiful,” said Mr Saddler, 91.

“You never used to hear any noise other than the birds singing and it has been glorious, until now.

“Our garden backs onto the field and when people are staying in the shepherd huts, we can hear every word they’re saying – and not all of it is the kind of stuff we want to be listening to. There’s often a lot of swearing and drinking going on.”

Retired engineer Brian said: “If they had been granted permission for the camping site, our lives would’ve been an utter misery. I don’t want that sort of thing going on next door.”

His 90 year-old wife, Yvonne, a retired factory worker, agreed.

She said: “We’ve heard people’s fears about couples getting romantic late at night, but to be honest that wouldn’t affect us because we’re usually in bed by 8 o’clock.

“Our bigger concern was the volume of traffic the site would have generated.

“There’s only a narrow, single lane road running up here and if you’ve got a dozen or so extra vehicles using it night and day, it would have led to a lot of noise and frustrations.

“It just isn’t an appropriate place for a business of this kind.”

When The Sun visited the village last month, locals whose homes overlook Swallows Nest were quick to spell out their objections.

One resident told us: “We live right next door to this field and we hear everything.

“We hear them shouting and playing loud music, and then we have to put up with the sound of them getting amorous when they go to bed,” they added.

“I am no killjoy, but I just don’t want to be living right next door to what sometimes sounds like an orgy.”

The Swallows Nest site is less than two miles away from Abergavenny, which has a 13,000 population and an array of shops, restaurants, bars and hotels.
