THERE are thousands of beautiful Greek Islands in the Mediterranean, but if you’re looking for sun and culture on a budget then Thassos is considered one of the cheapest for holidays.

The island also has Blue Flag beaches, olive groves and boutique hotels.

Thassos is Greece’s northernmost island and even up to November has average daily highs of 17C – warm enough for a t-shirt and shorts for us Brits, although the weather does also dip to 10C, so be sure to pack some warm clothes.

When the sun’s out in full force, it’s easily warm enough to enjoy the mild weather on one of the island’s 34 beaches.

Paradise Beach is considered one of the best swimming spots because it has white sand, bright waters and is generally quiet.

For exploring, Thasos or Limenas, is the capital where visitors will find ancient ruins, beaches and the ferry port.

Limenaria is the island’s second-largest town where the old port is located, it’s also a pretty neighbourhood where you can enjoy a coffee by the sea.

There are lots of hiking paths on the island too and coves to go snorkelling or diving.

Sounds perfect, right? What’s even better is that it’s ranked as being one of the cheapest for package holidays by the likes of TUI which has breaks from £285pp.

One of the cheapest breaks is to Smaragdi II Studios – and you can go this year.
