Sir – Well done Sarah O’Toole on her advice on interrupting the suicidal thoughts of a friend, family member or colleague (Letters, September 10th).

Instead of advising people who feel hopeless to “talk to someone”, let us as humans talk to those we feel or know are having a hard time. People often feel alone or sad these days, and with many working remotely, people are not always around to talk or don’t have the time.

We will all be challenged some days, those that feel suicidal are not a different species. – Yours, etc,

KATHLEEN BERMINGHAM,
