HUNDREDS of restaurants have now been shut across the UK – as two iconic pub chains have been shuttered forever.
This comes as part of a massive overhaul from the business behind Premier Inn.
All Beefeater and Brewers Fayre sites have now been closed across the country, resulting in the loss of 195 diners, pubs and eateries.
This includes 106 Beefeater locations and 89 Brewers Fayre diners, which permanently shut on September 10 and 7 respectively.
Both brands are one of five chains its owner, Whitbread, has chosen to permanently retire, including Bar + Block, Table Table and Cookhouse + Pub.
CEO Dominic Paul said he aimed to transform the company “into a higher-margin, higher-returning pure-play hotel business,” following challenges from “significant cost increases”.

He added: “Our continued efforts to drive our commercial plan and efficiencies will extend our market-leading position and allow us to take share from our competitors, many of which are struggling to grow.”
As a result, around 3,800 job roles, and a total of 208 locations, have now been cut.
Instead, a reconstruction project will see the abandoned restaurant spaces used to create around 600 new Premier Inn rooms.
On the job losses, a spokesperson for the company commented: “As a business which recruits around 15,000 people every year, we expect to be able to retain a significant proportion of those affected and will be looking to redeploy as many of our impacted colleagues as possible.”

“We will do all we can to support those colleagues affected.”
Many have called the closures a “blow” to the industry, as UK hospitality continues to struggle under the weight of rising operational costs, high tax, and decreased consumer spending.
