Double killer Simon Levy denies stabbing prison guard in neck with pen before trying to strangle him in jail attack

A CONVICTED double killer has denied that he stabbed a prison guard in the neck with a pen and tried to strangle him in a jail attack, a court heard.

Simon Levy, 41, is currently serving a whole life sentence for murdering two women in Tottenham, London.

Levy was also accused of ambushing Paul Dunne at maximum security HMP Belmarsh in February.

The 41-year-old was being held on remand at the time for murdering two women and raping a third in a crime spree in London.

Levy has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional strangulation in an incident at HMP Belmarsh.

At a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court, sitting in the Royal Courts of Justice, on Monday, Levy appeared over a videolink from HMP Belmarsh.

Judge Charlotte Welsh ordered Levy to stand trial on February 15 next year, in a case which is due to last up to four days.

At the first hearing of the case last month, prosecutor David Burns told the court Levy was finishing a meeting with Belmarsh guard Dunne when it is said he “attacked him with a pen, stabbing him multiple times to the arm and neck”.

It is said that Mr Dunne fell to the floor and Levy then “grabbed the officer around the throat” before allegedly tightening his grip.

Levy indicated during his first appearance in the magistrates’ court that he intends to fight the allegations of attacking Mr Dunne.

Judge Welsh adjourned the case for a further hearing on November 13, and set a pre-trial review hearing for January 19 next year.

Levy was handed a whole life term last month for murdering grandmother Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, and mother-of-four Sheryl Wilkins, 39.

Carmenza was found dumped in the stairwell of a derelict building in Peckham, South East London, on March 17 last year.

Sheryl was found collapsed near High Road, Tottenham, at 6.30am on August 24 last year.

The killings happened after he had also carried out a string of sexual assaults on the Tube and raped a woman in a car park.
