BOXING fans are getting a proper Brit-Yank showdown this weekend as Ryan Garcia puts his WBC welterweight title on the line against Conor Benn at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Garcia enters as the clear favourite after his dominant win over Mario Barrios, while Benn arrives with plenty of confidence following back-to-back wins over Chris Eubank Jr and Regis Prograis.

Ryan Garcia is currently the clear favourite, with 4/11 available at Betfred, while Conor Benn is priced at 9/4.  

The market makes sense given Garcia’s superior hand speed, accuracy, and all-round stellar performances at welterweight recently, but Benn is hardly cannon fodder coming into this matchup. He has won his last two fights against Eubank Jr (previously his only professional loss) and Prograis and has a lot of experience fighting larger men than Garcia.

The real question is how much Benn’s return to 147lbs affects him. He has openly described the weight cut as difficult and confirmed that this will be his final fight at welterweight before moving back up.

This fight has been brewing for months, with Garcia and Benn spending much of the build-up exchanging insults as enthusiastically as we hope they will trade punches come fight night.

For Garcia, this is the first defence of the WBC welterweight title he won against Mario Barrios in February. Garcia dropped Barrios early and then controlled the remainder of the fight to win a wide unanimous decision, producing what The Ring described as a career-best performance.

Benn, meanwhile, has rebuilt his career after suffering his only professional defeat against Chris Eubank Jr. He avenged that loss with a unanimous decision in their 2025 rematch before moving on to beat former two-time junior-welterweight champion Regis Prograis by decision in April 2026.

The catch is that both recent fights were contested above the welterweight limit, with the Prograis fight taking place at 150lbs.

Ryan Garcia comes into the fight with a 25-2 record and 20 knockouts, having bounced back from his 2025 defeat to Rolando “Rolly” Romero with an impressive victory over Mario Barrios.

Garcia dropped Barrios early before comfortably winning the decision, showing a more measured and mature approach than the reckless, action-hero version we’ve seen at various points previously in his career.

His hand speed remains his biggest weapon, particularly his lightning-fast left hook and ability to range opponents and then swiftly punish them as they try to get in close.

He also has enough power to make Benn think twice about simply walking forward. Garcia has predicted a stoppage inside five rounds, although that might be slightly more optimistic than our own assessment.

Conor Benn’s current form

Conor Benn enters this fight with 25 wins and 14 knockouts, and is looking to capitalise on the biggest opportunity of his career thus far. “The Destroyer” defeated Eubank Jr in their rematch before following up with a dominant points victory over Regis Prograis in April.

His aggressive pressure and willingness to exchange make him an entertaining opponent for Garcia, but he will need to be considerably more disciplined than usual. Charging into range against one of the fastest punchers in the division is a good way to turn a lifetime opportunity into a quick day at work for Garcia.

This is the safer option for anyone who doesn’t fancy picking an exact winner and round.

Garcia’s speed and power create a constant finishing threat, while Benn’s aggressive style means he is unlikely to spend 12 rounds happily sitting behind a jab. More importantly, Benn’s difficult return to the 147lb limit introduces a genuine possibility that his performance deteriorates as the fight progresses.

If you’re looking for the upset, we’d avoid backing Benn to win on points.

Garcia is the quicker and cleaner boxer, while Benn’s best chance of causing an upset is probably to make the fight physical, force Garcia backwards and land something big enough to drastically change the tone of the match.

Garcia is more accomplished as a knockout artist, but Benn still has a very good 14 knockouts from 25 professional wins, and his pressure-heavy style gives him a genuine chance of producing a surprise if he can get Garcia into a prolonged exchange.

The weight cut is the major concern, but if he handles it properly, his size and physical strength could make this a much tougher night for Garcia than the odds suggest.
