The Lance East Exotics Tarmac West rally will be held in Perth and surrounds from September 17 to 20, with its largest field of competitors in 12 years racing the clock in 34 stages along 215km of closed roads.

There will be 70 crews taking part, 16 of them rookies making up 23 per cent of the field — including former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg who will compete with co-driver Lachlan White in the Time Speed Distance (TSD) category, which was introduced in 2024 and is designed for standard road cars.

TSD competitors just need a helmet and an Australian Auto-Sport Alliance general speed licence. All that’s required of them is to complete each stage as close as possible to the time allowed — and there are penalties for an early finish more so than a late finish.

In total, there are six competition categories, with stages in Whiteman Park, Ellenbrook, Parkerville, Kalamunda, Toodyay, Maryville Downs, Bullsbrook, Malaga and the CBD, where a ceremonial start will be held in Forrest Place.

The rally weekend will culminate with the “celebration of motorsport” at Langley Park on September 20, which drew 45,000 spectators in 2025.

This year’s entry list spans six decades of motoring, from a 1964 Ford Anglia to a 2024 BMW M4, with classic Datsun 240Zs and Ford Escorts lining up alongside Porsches, including a rare 1988 944 Turbo S, and two Teslas.

The event marks the third successive year in partnership with high-end luxury Perth car dealership Lance East Exotics.

Tarmac Events WA director Ross Tapper said was there was strong support for rally competitions in WA.

“Getting 70 crews on the start line is a big deal, but what is most encouraging is that nearly a quarter of the field is competing in their first Tarmac West, and that tells us the sport is growing,” said Tarmac Events WA director Ross Tapper.

“Rallying can look intimidating from the outside, but categories like TSD and the Rookie Rallye give newcomers a genuine way into the sport.”
