Emmerdale spoilers follow for Friday’s (September 11) episode that is now available to view on ITVX and YouTube. The episode in question will air on ITV1 on at 8pm.

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) has resigned herself to a bleak future behind bars after her last hopes of securing her freedom faded away.

The Woolpack icon, as viewers know, is in prison for the murder of Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), a crime which was committed (by accident) by Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).

Charity initially took the blame for the crime in a bid to prevent granddaughter Sarah from going to prison. With help from Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) to make her story more believable, she claimed self-defence, hoping this would prevent her from having to serve prison time.

But when the police revealed there were discrepancies in Charity’s story, Sarah resolved to turn herself in so that her gran didn’t spend her life behind bars.

In a bid to prevent her from doing so, Charity spilled the beans about baby Leyla’s parentage, which left Sarah so fuming that she instead went to the police station to incriminate Charity further – claiming she killed Todd in cold blood.

Charity was subsequently arrested and charged with murder. Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) has urged Sarah to see sense and change her statement back but Sarah has refused.

Knowing only he could get through to their granddaughter, Charity got Cain (Jeff Hordley) to pay her a visit in jail and, after telling him the truth about both Leyla and Todd, pleaded with him to have it out with Sarah and get her to change her mind.

Cain reached out to Sarah, who arrived at Wishing Well. She was receptive at first but upon learning that he’d been to visit Charity she grew cold and defensive – and made it clear that she wouldn’t be altering what she said to the police, believing that her gran should pay for what she did.

Cain reiterated that Charity has only ever acted in her best interests and was willing to take the blame for Todd to protect her. He also reminded Sarah of what Todd did to Charity.

However, his pleas had little to no effect. Sarah was not helping Charity secure her freedom. She stormed out, leaving Cain unsure how to fix this.

When he received a call from Charity, he updated her on the situation but promised that he will sort this for her. Charity, however, wasn’t so sure, convinced that she’s going to be spending her life behind bars.

Can Cain get through to Sarah and make her drop this cruel revenge plan?
