North Sligo Club Naomh Molaise Gaels have expressed their disappointment after the planned integration of the GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association hit a significant setback this week.
Former Irish president Mary McAleese resigned as chair of the integration steering group this week, after it became clear that the original target of completing integration by 2027 would not be met.
The fall-out has continued this week, and Grange based club Naomh Molaise Gaels have expressed their disappointment over the setback.
“We at Naomh Molaise Gaels would like to publicly express our deep disappointment that the process of integration that was democratically agreed upon and committed to has not been upheld,” a statement from the club said.
“Because women in the GAA are so much more than jersey washers and tea makers.
“In our club, women are coaches, players, officers, committee members, fundraisers, organisers, decision-makers, volunteers, mentors and leaders.
“They sit at the table. They shape our decisions. They challenge the status quo. They bring ideas, experience and expertise.
“They help build our facilities, our teams and our future. They are not simply supporting the club from the sidelines – they are embedded in the fabric of our GAA community.
“As a ONE Club proudly offering LGFA, Camogie, Football and Hurling, we believe women should be valued as equals, with an equal voice and an equal place in the future of our club.
For us, this is about choosing equality over equity. It is about moving beyond traditional roles and recognising the full contribution of every member of our GAA community.
“Women are much more than jersey washers and tea makers. They are an integral part of who we are.”
