For centuries, the mysteries of the Great Pyramid of Giza have left archaeologists and scientists baffled.

With many wondering how, and why, it was built in Egypt over 4,000 years ago, a new theory has suggested that one message may have been staring us in the face all along.

Sefy Levy, an independent researcher, has said in a new paper that chosen measurements on the exterior of the great Pyramid actually point to a numerical system, one designed to outlive the monument’s builders.

Except, rather than being carved into the walls, the code is embedded into the structure’s height, base, sloping sides and shape — with Levy claiming that those dimensions match with the calendar and cycles of the moon and planets.

All of which, he maintains, was in a bid to preserve the Egyptians’ knowledge of maths and time.

Writing in the research paper The Pyramid as Memory Hypothesis, which was published in August, he said: ‘The pyramid was not built to last forever because it contained something valuable…it was because it was something valuable.’

He added in the paper, which has yet to be peer reviewed, that that pyramid is ‘the knowledge…made stone’.

Daily Mail reports that Levy uncovered the alleged code by examining the Great Pyramid’s key measurements, and divided them using fractions the ancient Egyptians had used.

He says the results produce some very significant numbers. For example, one calculation gives the figure 27.5, a close match to the 27.55 day cycle the Moon takes when it reaches its closest point to Earth.

Levy estimates that another figure, 70, could point to the period of time between the heliacal rising and setting of Sirius, the brightest star in Earth’s night sky, when it was concealed by the glare of the sun.

He also claims that other calculations have been close matches for the repeating cycles of other planets including Venus and Jupiter, and that the proportions of the pyramid itself produce figures akin to pi and the golden ratio.

However, these codes form only one part of the researcher’s radical arguments about why the Pyramids were built in the first place, with his larger theory referring to the Heliopolitan creation theory that believes before time began the world was covered in a dark, endless ocean known as Nun.

It states Earth formed when a sacred hill of dry land — known as the ‘benben’ — rose from the depths, from which it is said that the creator God, Atum, brought himself into existence.

Levy has said he believes the pyramids could be a recreation of the mound, although he has also suggested they could have been modelled on a place where distant ancestors of the ancient Egyptians lived, known as the Eye Of The Sahara.

It’s said that this particular body of land, located in Mauritania, may well have once been home to communities of people, who left after water in the region dried up, moving east towards the Nile.

The researcher has suggested the pyramids could well have been built by future generations in memory their old home.

Levy’s speculation comes months after new theories emerged over how the Great Pyramid was built without the benefit of modern machinery.

The report, published in Nature, suggested a multi-channel system of ramps, built directly into the edges of the pyramid itself, could be the solution to this architectural marvel.

The paper proposes that the structure in Giza, also known as the Pyramid of Khufu, could have been built by a spiral ramp system that was covered up and hidden as each new layer was added.
