Leona Maguire got her Solheim Cup tournament off to a winning start and she and Esther Henseleit got the better of American duo Andrea Lee and Lindy Duncan at Bernadus Golf Course in the Netherlands.
The European duo won their foursome match 2up to leave the competition tied at 2-2 after a morning session in which the US raced into an early lead.
The United States got off to a strong start as Allisen Corpuz and Nelly Korda made history by becoming the first pair to secure a five-and-zero record in Solheim Cup foursomes. They eased to a 4&5 victory over Charley Hull and Lottie Woad.
The travelling team then stretched their lead as Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin beat Nanna Koertz Madsen and Celine Boutier 3&2, with the European duo looking well off their best.
Maja Stark and Linn Grant pulled one back for Europe as they saw off Rose Zhang and Jennifer Kupcho 3&2, while Maguire and Henseleit levelled things up before the afternoon session.
There was some surprise however, when European captain Anna Nordqvist announced her pairings for the afternoon foursomes, with the news that Maguire and Henseleit had been stood down despite their win.
Mimi Rhodes and Nastasia Nadaud come in for Europe and they will take on Allisen Corpuz and Auston Kim, while Madsen and Boutier getting another run out, despite their poor morning play.
